Play Ball!

February 15th, 2006

Email me at roboball -at- gmail -dot- com if you’re interested in joining an all-blogger fantasy baseball league!

Some details if you’re interested after the break.

Teams: I’m looking for 10 teams. Entry fee of a paltry $2 to be paid at the beginning of the season, to be held in my PayPal account. Invite your friends!

Some fantasy baseball experience will be a plus, but I’d be happy to introduce you to it if you’d like.

Mets fans grudgingly accepted.

Winnings:
1st place: $14!!!
2nd place: $4!!! (Double your money!!!)
3rd place: You win back your $2!!!

Everyone else is shit out of luck. If we have more or less players, I’ll adjust the winnings at more or less the same ratio.

Stats: Traditional 5×5 mixed roto league. This means:
Offense: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG
Pitching: W, S, K, ERA, WHIP
Daily transactions. [Edit: I think weekly transactions are a better idea.]

Draft: Automatic draft in early March. (You rank your players, a random draft order is set by Yahoo, and then I press a button and Yahoo chooses players for each team based on your rankings. Yahoo comes with default rankings that you can keep if you don’t have the time or inclination to do your own.)

Fun: Fun is mandatory! I expect this to be mildly competitive (think of the big bucks you can win), and trash-talking is encouraged. I am going to blog about the league on a subdomain of LTR, so beware! People interested in being co-commissioner or helping out with the blog are absolutely welcome - this is not a power trip!

Last year wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. There was hardly any talk between people and it just felt isolating. I was thinking I wouldn’t do it again but mandatory fun sounds a bit better (how weird was it just to type that)…

  2. LTR Says:

Oh, you can count on more fun (and more exclamation points!) with me as commissioner. Sign up!

I’m playing! I’ll read up on the 5×5 rules, but you get points if your players are cute, right?

  4. LTR Says:

I’ll start posting rules, screen shots, tips and tricks, etc., on the league’s blog when I get it set up, so everything should be newbie friendly.

No points for cuteness! I don’t even think Gabe Kapler is going to find a major-league roster spot this year, sorry!

[…] I’m looking for 10 players to form the league. Twelve would be ideal. We will be OK with more or less players. So far we have four, with one “maybe.” I am hoping some other bloggers who are baseball fans will find there way here, and then follow this link to my original announcement. Anyone who wants to play can play! […]

  6. Darren Says:

I think that a manual draft would be much better than an automatic draft. I would be more inclined to take part in the league.

  7. LTR Says:

I am a little nervous about the task of coordinating schedules, especially since the league is still filling up with members. If I could do anything else to convince you, though…
